There are too few books about Yoruba religion Mauge's strength is that he condenses a complex and under represented subject into a short volume His poetic sensibilities also keep this from becoming a dry reel of information The book left me wanting to know in a good way I incorporated Mauge's insights with other research in my book Gods of the Flesh which discusses Yoruba Voodoo and Palo Mayombe

For anyone interested in the Yoruba religion and it’s practices this is a great way to get started Even if you just want to learn about it this book explains much of the spirituality at a pace anyone can follow So thankful for this tool
