This book is INSANE totally reminds me of a social media driven black mirror episode It is crazy how obsessed we are with social media and how we allow it to drive our lives Literally this book revolves around an fictitious individual Such a page turner I could not put it down I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily

This book seemed intriguing and up my alley since I first laid eyes on it Thats where it ended unfortunately I couldn't uite connect with the writing style it was bizarre unemotional and lacklustre I am always heartbroken when this happens with books I am so eager to read and love This one was slightly off and just couldn't'' hold my interest I ended up skimming the pages after failed attempts to LIKE EVEN A TEENY TINY BIT in here With a heavy heart I put it out there I didn't like it The book cover is pretty though The premise is also uite riveting and a pressing issue these days so all my stars for the aforementionedI would still like to read from the author as this was my first book and I feel its too soon to judge Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for giving me an e ARC in exchange for an honest review

It was a really fast read which is a good thing I am really hooked throughout the whole thing until the mediocre endingMyface is the social media which everyone is using in a somewhat high tech world in the book It wasn't much different from facebook except that they have mirrors where u can call Myface and MyFace would appear to serve youAngela Fox is the new winner user of MyFace but the thing is she is the plastic surgery version of one of the heroine I cant remember her name Norman is this crazy child star who fell out of fame and is infatuated with Angela Fox and having hallucinations about her The whole story is kinda crazy and very fast paced But I feel like it happened too fast to not allow me to grow attached and learn about the characters that the ending is very underwhelming

    Genre New Adult Novella
Rating 255
Myface is the perfect read for fans of Chuck Palahniuk and Bret Easton Ellis less so for social media giants who definitely won't want you to read this
With than half the global population now on social media this YANA contemporary fiction novella explores its negative side
Catfishing can be a deadly business especially when social media mega influencer Angela Fox has you in her sights When Angela Fox’s Myface account is selected as Hottest User of the Month there’s only one problem she isn’t real As the fake Angela takes the world by storm a group of strangers struggle to escape a twisted web of narcissism deceit and revenge
LA hotshot Sebastian Shafer is so desperate to get a job he creates an elaborate plan to convince his future employer that if hired Sebastian’s association with “Hollywood socialite” Angela Fox will bring in the sales The only issue is he needs to convince the world that she actually exists
Angela draws attention than Sebastian anticipated when her profile gains millions of followers and fame seekers desperately try to catch her attention But things really get out of control when a handsome young stage play director winds up dead The uestion is who pulled the trigger?
My verdict I loved the premise of the novel and thought it really reflected on our attitudes towards social media and catfishing however I thought the choppy writing style use of fantasies and alternate points of view made it rather confusing to read whilst I appreciate the idea of a novella is to be precise and to the point I thought this limited the author from exploring themes such as infertility our online social media personas and the pressures and that comes with being in the public eye in dog eat dog society There is promise with the writing however I just thought it was a bit obvious in terms of plot and had caricatures rather than characters we could emotionally connect with despite their lives corresponding with relevant issues faced in our modern day society Perhaps this would be better suited as a play or short film? I'm also a bit perplexed as to why it was marketed as a young adults book considering it's adult themes that's not to say I don't think teenage readers could handle this I just think they would find it a bit difficult to relate to even with the aspect of social media

For full review visit my blog at a world driven by technology and social media this novella touches on the dirty truth of Catfishing Catfishing is a scam where someone creates a false identity to deceive harm or just toy with another person To share some statistics on Catfishing 53% of Americans admit to falsifying their online profiles 73% use photos of someone else rather than real pictures of themselves and 24% pretend to be the opposite gender when creating their fake identity LA hotshot Sebastian Shafer in his desperation for a job brings into existence the beautiful and enchanting Angela Fox On being announced as the Hottest User of the month Angela Fox garners way attention than anticipated Everyone wants to meet her and know her; they want her at their parties openings and plays; however the only problem is that she doesn't exist It all seems game and fun until a young stage playwright is found dead Multiple people find themselves sucked into a web of deceit lies narcissism and revenge The best and worst uality of the book is that it is a novella While it is fast paced action packed with uick twists in the plots the story leaves you craving for Writing a thriller as a novella is no small feat; one needs to make sacrifices in character and plot development I didn't want to put the book down The author has sueezed as many twists as he can and as a reader that keeps you hooked He has provided brief background stories for all the characters and linked them together in an intricate web Imagine a line of dominoes placed one after the other As soon as one of them falls every other domino behind it topples as well However I wish the author had made this into a novel I wish he had allowed the characters to tell their stories and develop in that process The plot and storyline were so well thought out that I wanted to read about it The ending came too soon and several uestions remained unanswered The story would have made a great novel The most intriguing part of a thriller is exploring the motives of the characters and that piece was short and unfulfilling for me It is a great novella And if one likes fast paced thrillers I definitely would recommend this one I give it 35 stars out of 5 stars I received a free copy from Reedsy Discovery for my honest review

Myface is an absolutely addictive read I found the concept to be very intriguing although at times I felt a bit confused I think that was mainly due to the length of the novel Since it's so short I don't think there was enough time to truly develop the characters or the plot Some of the things that happened weren't fully explained so I have a lot of unanswered uestionsIt does however make some important commentary on social media and how we often allow ourselves to be ruled by it While the execution was lacking in certain aspects I think it is a relevant and important read in our day and ageIf you're looking for a uick compelling read that explores deep subjects without diving too far beneath the surface this one's for youthanks to Literally PR for a free e copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
