Cute and definitely a couple with that witty banter that disguises how deeply they feel about one another which is definitely a bonus in my bookHowever there were some things that irked me and detracted from the book1 The sudden change in Cash's He was actually my favorite character but his sudden change of heart had me baffled2 This book is insta loveThe characters and the story would have benefited from a longer story3 Lucy I never really warmed up to her She had heart moments but there were times especially toward the end of the book that I couldn't stand had and definitely didn't see what Cash saw4 Repetition There were editing issues that I'm sure will be worked out for the final release but there was a few passages that I felt had been written before5 No real character development A lot of tellWhat worked?Attraction These two characters were so attracted to each other that the best parts of the book were when they were together They steamed up the pagesAlso the banter When Lucy wasn't being a jerk she was downright funny and charmingIs it worth it?If it comes your way check it outThanks to Harleuin and NetGalley for the ARC

You can read this and my other reviews at My Written Romance I was provided with an ARC of this book by Harleuin via NetGalley in exchange for an honest reviewLoveit does like to surprise us Sometimes it shows up in ways you never expected it to and with people you never thought of The trope of love when you least expect it is kind of a favourite for me There’s not a whole lot that is as sweet as seeing two jaded people find love when they thought that was out of their reachThat’s what happens for Lucy and Cashel in Romance for CynicsThe story does take place over a relatively short period of time which on a lot of occasions could lead to a hefty dose of instalove However I didn’t get that feeling here The progression from bossemployee to fake couple to actual lovers didn’t seem rushed or forced in any way The competition that brings them together is something I could totally imagine happening in real life as wellLucy and Cash together make a fantastic couple – I loved the banter between them and their chemistry was pretty damn hot dance floor sceneread it and you will knowI loved that Cash was upfront about the fact that he has a case of the hots for Lucy and won’t rule out making a move on her Even saying that he wasn’t pushing her into places she didn’t want to go I’ve heard a few people say that they had issues with Lucy constantly pushing Cash away but I get why she does Lucy didn’t really have the greatest of marriages and you wouldn’t blame her for being a little gun shy around someone like Cash who lives a life uite like her ex did even if she finds him kinda hotThe relationship between Lucy and her grandmother was lovely and the fact that Lucy was willing to put herself into potentially uncomfortable territory to help her grandmother out was testament to how strong that bond must be I like when I get to read older characters that aren’t cartoonishMelbourne based stories will always have a place on my bookshelf and I love that Romance for Cynics takes place partly over my side of the bridge Williamstown is one of my favourite spots in Melbourne and is filled with lovely old houses much like Cash’s in the bookRomance for Cynics is a thoroughly enjoyable read for the romantic and the cynic alikeMy Rating 4 out of 5

35 stars My review cross posted from Wit and Sin Romance for Cynics is a fresh and fun story about two people with guarded hearts who find themselves falling in love when they least expect it Cash is a sinfully sexy hero who is knocked off his feet and out of his comfort zone by the one woman who doesn’t want him – Lucy She’s been through a bad marriage and has no desire to fall a suave rich businessman like Cash I loved watching these two cynics slide into love even as they swear they’re turning their noses up at the hearts and flowers filled competition they’re engaging in Cash and Lucy can be delightfully funny and make a charming couple I did grow a bit weary of Lucy constantly pushing away Cash because her previous marriage was a disaster but the scenes when she’s not resisting her attraction to him make up for thisI thoroughly enjoyed Romance for Cynics There are a few scenes that strained credulity example Lucy and Cash talking about how fake their relationship is when the competition’s camera crews are around and not getting caught but overall the book is a fast paced feel good read that will satisfy the cynical romantics among us Romance for Cynics is the first book of Nicola Marsh’s that I’ve read and I’m looking forward to reading many Note I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review

The benefits of reading Romance for CynicsCash Burgess’s business and reputation are in potential trouble when a slighted starlet threatens to ruin him Cash’s friend in public relations Barton Clegg comes up with a scheme for Cash and his girlfriend to enter a Valentine’s Day contest to find Australia’s Most Romantic Couple The only problemCash doesn’t have a girlfriendLucy Grant is Cash’s gardener and a secret object of his lust but he is hesitant to approach an employee about his desires Unfortunately he is in a bind and he thinks she would be the perfect “girlfriend” for a week He offers her a large sum of money which she feels she cannot turn down because her grandmother is on the verge of losing her home Despite being reluctant because of her cheating ex husband she agrees and the farce is onDuring the week of the contest Cash and Lucy must pretend to be a serious couple with public affection and touching Before long the line between ‘real’ and ‘fake’ begins to blur and Lucy panics She sees Cash as a rich playboy and a threat to her uiet safe life with no entanglements Cash experiences a bit of panicking himself He’s not really a playboy but he’s also not ready for a serious relationshipWell fortunately for them both even cynics can find romance one of the benefits and lessons of reading this book This was a fun light read and certainly recommended even for you romance cynics Really loved that it was set in Australia It adds a nice touch when the characters toss in local collouialisms and flavor of their country 4 starsARC Provided

Lucy is a strong willed woman but unfortunately she is slightly jaded and cynical Divorce can do that to a person especially when your ex is the type that likes do the horizontal samba with every willing participant he can find Now Lucy seems to think that no man is trustworthyCashel doesn't really do a lot to dispel that belief He is the rich good looking playboy type so Lucy just automatically assumes that he isn't worth her timeThe two of them are thrown together for a competition and each one of them has their own reasons for taking part He just wants some eye candy to help his public profile and she needs the moneyDoesn't exactly sound like a perfect recipe for romance right?Stranger things have happened and in this case they truly do The two of them find themselves drawn to each other What starts out as pretend soon becomes so real that it frightens both Lucy and Cashel to a certain degreeI did wonder about the scene at the ball and how Lucy got away with her behaviour without alerting the press to anything Other than that this a was fun story with opposites who attractI received a copy of this book courtesy of Harleuin UKMills Boon

I received this book via good reads first readsA fun flirty book about a fake couple that has lost the ability to love because of their pasts Cash's mother left his father when he was young so it made him not want a relationship beyond the bedroom with women Lucy was married to a wealthy man who cheated on her She told herself that she would never fall for that kind of guy again To bad her heart doesn't agree because she falls for cash hard and fast It was fun to watch the characters over come their pasts and take a chance on love again They are great together being able to trade insults back and forth and not getting mad at each other I'm glad Lucy got her prince charming in the end

I liked this The hero needs a temporary girlfriend for a Valentine's competition to burnish his company reputation and wants to hire his gardener the heroine I was never sure why being in the competition would make his financial management services reputable but since I didn't care much I just went with it The heroine was married briefly to a rich man she assumes is just like the hero so she turns him down until she learns her Gran they're in Australia is about to lose her house so she hijacks the hero for money and the game is on They are already attracted to each other so the sparks fly uickly The angst is done well and believably The loss of their mutual cynicism develops nicely It's a good read I liked it
