Read this one some years ago and decided to read it again It was a fun volume and I really liked it however I don't think I liked it as much as I did the first time It was just too much at times and yes I get that is the point of this manga to be over the top to be silly at all times But it is just not something I want all the time any But there is also story and backstory and I will keep on reading this one there is only one volume left after all The characters are decent I didn't like all of them For instance the current student council they are cold and harsh probably for reasons the new student council is weird Renko just annoys me Chihiro needs to man up and get a bit tougher he is so weak and bleh at times Sure he also shows that he will protect his friends but he is just a bit too boring and his bad luck is just so clichéThen we have the fanservice There is uite a lot of pantsu shots but also nakedness why is everything censored but the nipples? I don't mind fanservice but it was just annoying me here It was totally unnecessary It was fun to see that things are decided by Kujibiki It is an interesting system though I can also see why it might be a bad system For instance the whole club stuff and how that is doneThe art is pretty good though the characters eyes are just creepy I loved the last part where we come back to the Genshiken clubroom It was fun to see them talk about the Kujibiki world about the mangaka and also see them discuss stuff All in all would I recommend this one? Yes and no Yes if you are searching for over the top stuff and don't mind fanservice No if you don't like those things I think people who read Genshiken might just appreciate this manga and also the anime since it is a thing that runs through the Genshiken mangaReview first posted at

Let me get started by saying that I loved Genshiken from top to bottom I fell in love with the story idea of Kuji Un as it was originally an in story joke to the series The whole point of Kuji Un was for it to be the stereotypical anime series that otaku go nuts over with love triangles bizarre characters aliens magic and pretty much any other anime stereotype You could literally name a cliche it would be in there somewhere The whole point of it was that it was a parody of all anime cliches it served it's purpose very well in Genshiken Now it's a manga anime of it's own and unfortunately it doesn't shine uite as brightly on it's own The plot surrounds Chihiro his childhood friend Tokino as they try to make their way in their new school However this school has a peculiar way of choosing their student body government they choose it by random drawing rather than by election Chihiro soon finds himself as the president and that it's not so easy to run this student gov't In fact if he or any of the others fail in even one task they'll be expelled Meanwhile the mysterious current president Ritsuko has ties to Chihiro from the past that keep resurfacing All in all this is a cute manga but it's still somewhat mediocre in comparison to others out in the genre Fanservice is pretty high in this book sometimes is a little annoying when it's in a scene it shouldn't be in The characters are all pretty bland so I wasn't really able to get into any of them or their problems The biggest problem with this series in a nutshell is that it's a parody in joke that tried to suddenly take itself seriously put out a real series It just isn't working Fans of Genshiken will love this series but most others will not be impressed Good thing it's only 2 volumes

Kujibiki Unbalance is the story written within the story Genshiken If you aren't familiar with Genshiken let me explain Genshiken is a story about a college otaku club with a mixed group of interests hentai gaming cosplay doujinshi However their most unifying source of conversation and interest is the new anime Kujibiki UnbalanceThat being said however you do not need to understand or even read Genshiken to enjoy this manga Although I do think it is a fun read regardless of why it was written The art is solid the pacing is satisfying and the story is actually uite strong considering the material Actually I think the the manga uses a much stronger approach than the animeI do recommend this story but if you don't care for 'fan service' you might want to avoid this one

It’s nothing to really write home about but it’s an enjoyable little read at times I bought it for what I thought looked like a cute style and cute idea for a story but it was just filled with nonsense and fan service
